With the new album around the corner, I've been listening to a lot of GoGo Penguin lately. I also realised that there's still some of their discography yet to feature. And the odd one out in the GoGo Penguin discography is GGP/RMX, a brilliant electronic remix of their self-titled album.

If you're unfamiliar with the group, you might go 'a remix album, there's nothing new about that'. So to recap – GoGo Penguin is classified as a Jazz trio, but that doesn't say anything, really. Instead, I'd describe their music as 'organic electronic' – imagine electronica breakbeat but performed live on a combo of piano, bass and drums.

In that light, GGP/RMX becomes a lot more intriguing, doesn't it? We essentially have an organic interpretation of electronic music interpreted electronically. As the result we get an almost ethereal soundscape leaning towards minimalistic. It's great! Remixing artists include Machinedrum, 808 State and Yosi Horikawa, to name a few.
